Expertise: Atmosphere biosphere interactions, biogenic trace gases, botany, Plant Physiology
Main research areas: Cycling of biogenic atmospheric trace gases is closely coupled to Botany (Plant Physiology, Phycology) and can be better understood in relation to biological activities such as photosynthesis, respiration, transpiration and enzymatic processes. Investigations cover terrestrial as well as marine biota as sources or sinks of climatically relevant atmospheric compounds. Recent interests cover the exchange of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC, Monoterpenes, isoprene, oxygenated compounds, acids, aldehydes...), reduced sulphur compounds (H2S, COS, CH3SH, DMS, CS2) as well as nitrogen compounds between the biosphere and the atmosphere. Within theses studies we are interested in the role of higher vegetation, soil biology, algae, cyanobacteria, lichens and mosses.
