Symposium Celebrating the American Chemical Society's Citation for Chemical Breakthrough Award

Scientific symposium at the MPI for Chemistry in Mainz in English followed by a get-together.

May 14, 2024

Last year, our Institute received the prestigious "Citation for Chemical Breakthrough Award 2023 for the Discovery of Nuclear Fission" from the Division of the History of Chemistry of the American Chemical Society (ACS).  It honors the discovery of nuclear fission thanks to the groundbreaking work of Otto Hahn, Fritz Straßmann, Lise Meitner and Robert Frisch in the 1930s. The Max Planck Institute for Chemistry is the successor to the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Chemistry in Berlin, where the historic discovery took place.

We are excited to commemorate the award ceremony with you and warmly extend an invitation to attend a scientific symposium conducted in English. This will be followed by a social gathering on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 14:00. The science historian Dr. Rehn-Taube from the Deutsches Museum will share with us news about the discovery of nuclear fission.
