ACRIDICON-Zugspitze

Sept. - Oct. 2012

Within the DFG-funded project ACRIDICON (Aerosol, Cloud, Precipitation, and Radiation Interactions and Dynamics of Convective Cloud Systems) we performed a ground based field campaign (17. September - 05. October 2012) on the mountain Zugspitze (summit, 2962m, and research station Schneefernerhaus, 2650 m) in Germany. Project objectives were the investigation of cloud microphysical, chemical and radiative properties, as well as testing of the instruments that will be operated during the aircraft mission of ACRIDICON. The original ACRIDICON mission was designed to be performed using the new German research aircraft HALO. Due to various delays with respect to certification issues the HALO mission ACRIDICON had been postponed for 2014. ACRIDICON is funded through the DFG priority program "HALO" (SPP 1294). Project coordination: M. Wendisch, U. Pöschl.
